When am I legally allowed to have sex?

The age at which you are legally allowed to have sex is 16, but many 16 year olds are not ready to have sex and do not want to.

Just because you are physically ready to have sex, it doesn’t mean that it is the right time to do it. You’ve got to be emotionally ready too.

It is also important that you are in the right relationship and that it is the right time for you and your partner.

Just because it’s legal when you are 16, it doesn’t mean that it is the right time for you. [See ‘How do I know when it’s the right time to have sex?’]
