What is advocacy?

Advocacy is when someone represents your views and rights, making sure that you have your say and obtain the services that you need.

Young people with autism might need help with communication in any situation where they are going through changes or making choices about what they want in life.

Many different people could be an advocate for a young person with autism.

An advocacy service is an organisation that provides independent advocates, but a parent or family member, teacher, social worker or carer could also act as an advocate.

Find out all about advocacy on the AET website.

The NAS also has lots of information on advocacy and autism.
