How should I behave on public transport?

You should behave with courtesy on public transport, as you would in any other public place. Here are some things to consider:

  • Have the money ready for your fare or show your pass when you board a bus or train.
    • For rail travel, you should usually buy your ticket from the ticket office or in advance, before you board a train.
  • Be polite – don't swear or shout. Respect the staff, other passengers and the vehicle.
  • Do not distract the driver on a bus or train.
  • Don't eat smelly food, throw litter or drink alcohol on public transport.
  • Be ready to get off in plenty of time when arriving at your stop.
  • If you don’t know when your stop is, ask a fellow passenger to help you
