Who is this module for?

This module is aimed at all professionals working in the Early Years, which includes childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

Description

There continues to be a significant increase in Early Years children at risk of exclusion from their settings, often linked to poorly managed transitions. Transitions occur throughout an entire person’s life, in both life stages, events, changes throughout the day, and even in between tasks.

This module aims to provide you with the knowledge, skills and understanding to plan transitions and implement processes to improve the education and wellbeing of children in the Early Years.

The aims

  • To develop your understanding of the differences between macro and micro transitions.
  • To increase your knowledge of why transitions can be challenging for autistic children.
  • To support you to identify the key principles of transition support in the Early Years.
  • To identify key considerations when planning Early Years transition support.

Learning objectives

After completing the module, you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of a child-centred approach.
  • Use a strengths and interests-based approach when planning for transitions.
  • Develop your confidence in planning for everyday transitions.
  • Use tools when planning for key transitions, such as the transition into Primary school.
