'Designing a playground that works for autistic children involves several principles. Ideally you will have the space to create zones with clear and organised layouts so children can navigate easily whilst having fun, But even with limited space, Theories Landscapes can help' Jac MD
Sensory-Friendly Spaces provide various sensory experiences, such as tactile surfaces, calming sounds, and visual stimuli. We use materials that are soft to touch and include elements like water features or sandboxes with structured layouts to provide clear, organized spaces to help children navigate easily. We also visual cues and signage to guide them to help minimize confusion.
Quiet Zones are really important so children can retreat when feeling overwhelmed. These spaces can include calm colours and comfortable seating and in all of our designs we try to Incorporate natural elements, such as trees, plants, and natural pathways, to create a calming environment and promote exploration.
And when children feel they can, social interaction areas encourage children to play together, through group games or collaborative play equipment, fostering communication and teamwork skills that are key to any well designed playscape.
All of our designs are bespoke and designed for your needs. When we start a project we like to meet with the teachers, pupils and parents so we can ensure we create a great space for all.
Our team have decades of experience between them and come from varied backgrounds bringing a unique mix of landscaping, construction, project management and architecture experience.
