This module is aimed at all education professionals working in the Early Years, which includes childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.
Description
This module is intended to equip you with an understanding of the importance of play in the Early Years Foundation Stage and how the Three Areas of Difference in autism can impact on play skills. The module also considers how person-centered planning and making reasonable adjustments can enable autistic children to develop their play skills.
The aims
- To increase your understanding of the importance of play in the Early Years
- To develop your understanding of how autism can impact upon a child's play development.
- To build your awareness of strategies that can be used to support autistic children with their play development.
Learning Objectives
After completing this module, you will:
- Understand that autism is a difference not a deficit.
- Understand how the Three Areas of Difference in autism may impact on the development of play skills.
- Understand the importance of all adults working together to support the child to develop play skills.
- Develop knowledge of how to support autistic children to develop play skills.
- Create a plan to ensure progress in play skills.

These sessions are open to Professionals, Educational setting staff and Parents/Carers of autistic children.
All modules are free to attend for staff in Enfield Educational Settings and Enfield resident parents/carers.
Charges apply for staff and parents who work/live out of the borough and for professionals who are employed by independent schools/nurseries & private companies.
